Investigation NOW Week 2: Alternate Realities
Another amazing night with such a fantastic Investigation NOW crew! We kicked off the night yet again with some delicious pizza. Lead teacher, Patrick, started the evening with a discussion around failure in art and the art process. We watched an inspiring Ted Talk about a man who embraced his failure and was able to problem solve a better way to create his own art. As artists, it is hard to avoid failure. The trick is to learn from that failure and find a better, more creative solution.
After that, assistant teacher, Amanda, demonstrated how to screen print the designs created last session onto pieces of paper and even t-shirts! One of the best parts of screen printing is being able to create multiples of one design. After the demo, students were able to print multiples of their designs, in different colors, on either paper or t-shirts.
For the last hour of the night, we went down to the computer lab where teachers, Kelly and Hannah, introduced students to the world of computer-based animation and demonstrated how to create 3D model creatures with a software called SculptFab. The students were challenged to create, using sculptfab, 3D creatures that would become characters in their own alternate realities. Next time, we will be able to animate the creatures we made and make them move.
Check out these pictures of the amazing designs the students screen printed!
Looking forward to more art adventures next week!
