Investigation NOW: Week 6 Alternate Realities

This week, we wrapped up Investigation NOW for the Fall 2018 semester and had so much fun! To start the evening off, we finished off our pizza dinner, and then we headed to VCU's new Institute for Contemporary Art to check out their exhibition Hedges, Edges, Dirt. The students got to look at some amazing work, and we had some great conversations about how the artists had created alternate realities in the exhibition! The new exhibition is a total sensory experience, with sights, smells, and sounds. Watching our students interact with the work and ask questions was really exciting. We finished the walk through the museum at Rashid Johnson's piece, titled Monument. A DJ was in the gallery, and the students walked in and around the piece. Visiting the ICA was a great field trip and a fun way to finish the semester.

After we visited the ICA, we came back to set up the student show and displayed the work they created throughout the semester. We hung up student prints, recreated their installations, and played videos of their creature animations on the classroom projector. Parents and families were invited to come and see what their students had been working on, and see how their students had interpreted and created Alternate Realities. We can't wait for next semester!
