Investigation NOW: Week 5 Alternate Realities
An awesome Friday night at Investigation NOW! This Friday, teacher Jolie kicked us off by going over more of the big ideas behind installation art. We looked at a few contemporary installation artists, like Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Yayoi Kasuma, and Sandy Skoglund, and then broke off into groups to start our installations! Students were divided into small groups of 4-5 and paired with one of our IN teachers.
Last week, students spent some time scouting for spots around the building. The groups went to revisit their spots and then got to work making installations. So many different materials were used! Fabric scraps, wire, clay, paper, card board, yarn, ribbon, the list goes on! We had groups make elaborate drawings and groups make ropes and carpets out of fabric scraps. Students went BIG with installations that took up big portions of a room or a hallway, and students went small, carefully crafting environments to fit into compact spaces. The final pieces were incredibly varied and visually interesting. It was exciting to watch everyone's different ideas come together to create and install alternate realities of their own.
We can't wait for next week!
